This is only my second New York Fashion Week, and I must say they make for my two favorite weeks of the year.

The first show I attended for the Spring 2011 season was Costello Tagliapietra. Well, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra's latest collection gave a subdued ode to the elegance of the early 1930s. The georgette and jersey pieces came in pale shades of blue and gray, as well as nude, charcoal, deep brown, rustic gold, and an eye-catching marble print. Shoulders were either exposed, wrapped, or sharp, and most of the hemlines met just below the knee. Select dresses had an architectural scrunch effect, while others flowed in all of the right places. The duo's ongoing draping aesthetic was beautifully executed, as well as their use of AirDye technology, a printing and dyeing process that consumes approximately 86 percent less energy than that of the water-based process. Simply put: eco-chic and undoubtedly made for a lady who knows how to work the beauty of an understated look.

Yesterday evening I found myself in an alarmingly quiet, downtown neighborhood by the Hudson River; I was in the alarmingly quiet, downtown neighborhood of Eighteenth designer Alexa Galler.

Lala and I were welcomed by the small, instantly lovable designer, along with her Spring | Summer 2011 shirt (and one absolutely brilliant dress) collection hanging on a garment rack in front of an enormous pile of books. The 12-piece collection drapes Heavenly and is entirely asymmetrical, cropped, black, white, and gray.

Before we knew it, Lala and I were putting the collection on the wonderfully patient fit model, and our minds began to run rapid with ideas. I will only say that the styling involves heeled and platformed booties, tailored trousers, as well as nude and leather shorts.

To end the fitting, Alexa was sweet enough to give me a top from her Fall | Winter 2010 collection. I cannot wait for next week's photo shoot for the Spring | Summer 2011 lookbook, as both the photographer and the model are quite major in my book. keep posted for more coverage

If you're curious, I was introduced to Lala last Monday at a photo shoot that photographer Wil Alexander (who is also a co-worker and friend) invited me to assist in. I was thrilled, as Lala did a stellar job at paying homage to the 1950s pin-up girl by choosing vintage pieces that were soft, nostalgic, and downright sexy. The image to the left is just a preview of the shoot.

Hello everyone,

I am excited to announce that I have (re-)entered the world of blogging, all thanks to my impromptu internship for Ms. Lala Lopez. She is a freelance stylist and writer, and is a huge proponent for publicizing young (and often edgier) designers.
